Garcia is asleep. No energy. So many better shows. Let's be honest.

I don't usaually write reviews of shows I didn't actually attend but this is the greatest of the four performances of "If I had the World to Give"! Note the drums during the jam at the end into a one of my favorite versions "Aiko Aiko" of all time. Note Weir's slide licks!

Skip this poor AUD. The only highlight is the If I Had the World to Give, which really should have stayed in the rotation. Bobby and Donna do way too much screaming, and the energy is just not there.

Along with the first "Miracle" and "World to Give", this show also had the first "Stagger Lee".

Some times you get shown the light.... This show is unique. The first show out of the studio after recording Shakedown Street. Yes it is laid back, but for those that were there it was anything but sleep inducing. There was a lilting, unrushed approach to the whole 2nd set. Different yes. But that's what always made it worth the trip! The estimated>other one>eyes jam is full of neat little twists and flourishes, the drum/space includes some cosmic Phil vocalizing leading into a beutiful 1st ever, World to Give and seamlessly into an Iko with a very cool Luau type of shuffle/swing. I drove 1800 miles to this show and saw some 300 others since. This one still holds a very special place in my heart.

Subject: FYI regarding Red Rocks
Subject: FYI regarding Red Rocks
It has long been known that the natural acoustics at Red Rocks is nice "in person" (I was there for the '87 shows, and yes the rocks do melt!), but for recording it's awful! The sound dissipates off the side rocks and through the openings at both ends of the back and front of the amphitheatre. SBD's are the only way to go for this venue, but they are so hard to find. I'm just 'grateful' that the 2nd Set was available in that format, and it's very sweet. First "Miracle" ever played, very sweet "Eyes", and of course the 1st of only 3 "If I Had The World To Give". Definitely get the 2nd set if you don't care for the Aud. version for the 1st. Well worth your time!
I'll be re-mastering the 1st set myself. Anyone who wants a copy e-mail me.
Thanks as always guys for another special treat!

Save for the MIRACLE jam and WORLD TO GIVE, that's what this show is. It sounds like the whole band had taken sleeping pills. Amazing that this is the same band that did those back to back amazing shows at the same venue in the prior month.

Don't mind the wookie! For those with good enough sense to know that DSO just recreates the setlist and a sound that mimics the era (and *not* the note-for-note concert), this AUD is not perfect but still worthwhile. It's not the cleanest, but chatter does *not* obscure the music. A monster version of Sugaree highlights an otherwise so-so first set. The main jam from set 2 is boiling-over with energy, and emotion just drips from World To Give. It's the kind of emotion that doesn't happen without Garcia on vox and guitar, i.e. something that totally lacks in a DSO show.

But it was Dark Star Orchestra performing it at the Showbox in Seattle. Maybe the second set soundboard of this one sounds better. This AUD is for sentimental use only, unless you want to listen to the people that the taper met during the show.
Look for the DSO version and be absolutely stunned, especially when they encore with "Music>Scarlet>Music>Ripple" after the featured show endend.
